Anne-Marie Ellis

Scroll down for Anne-Marie’s Biography

Artist Anne-Marie Ellis is gaining a reputation for her stylish still life paintings that reflect her career in fashion.  After a fine art foundation, Anne-Marie obtained a degree in fashion design and enjoyed a successful career designing womenswear for luxury brands for the past 20 years.

This appreciation of design discipline and aesthetic vision influences Anne-Marie’s artworks;  both in use of colour and statement subject matter.  A palette of muted greys and timeless black and white are enlivened with bright accent colours and the occasional flash of neon.

The textures of lace and the smoothness of glass are rendered in acrylics; her preferred medium.  She is as much inspired by Vermeer as she is by Rene Gruau… in her artwork the dramatic darkness and strong light capturing the translucency of glass are influenced by the Dutch masters, while the graphic style and bold perspective come from studying the great fashion illustrators.

In the same way that a perfume can evoke a memory, a painting can capture emotion, and Anne-Marie  paints the things she loves and the beauty she sees in serene moments of daily life. Her paintings are feminine and quietly sensual, a commentary on her life as a woman.
