Scroll down for Clive’s Biography
Clive Patterson attended Manchester College of Art & Design and graduated in 1974. Straight after college, he worked as a professional designer for a large company before joining a small product design practice.
Retaining his interest in painting and drawing throughout his career, he now devotes his time to painting and has regularly exhibited in exhibitions and galleries near St Albans, where he lives.
In his work, Clive attempts to connect viewers to the source of his inspiration, first by recognition of chosen elements, but ultimately by taking a journey into the abstract thoughts around the subject and the scene.
He works mainly in acrylic and oils with additional use of pastel crayon, graphite pencil, charcoal or oil bar when he wants to emphasise structure, or to delineate portions of a painting that need stronger visual direction.
Most of Clive’s work is painted on prepared ply board as it supports his heavy mark making and thick impasto and it also provides a firm base which is ideal to both scrape back revealing under painting, or continue building up additional layers to increase texture.
