Helene Dougherty was born in the north of England and grew up in Liverpool. She undertook a degree in Fine art at Liverpool Hope University and recently set up her studio in St Helens.
Being equidistant from both the Lake District and Snowdonia, Helene delights in painting the rivers and landscapes there and locally in the farmlands near her studio.
As a contemporary landscape painter, growing up in Liverpool, Merseyside has given Helene an easy access to the beauty of the Lake District, the Peak District, and to Snowdonia in Wales. Closer to home there are the surrounding farmlands.
She is motivated by the colour and light that dances off the landscapes and has been influenced by some of the greats including Turner, Joan Eardley and Gerhard Richter as well as Peter Doig. She sketches plein air, then returns to her studio to add colour using palette knives, sponges and even her fingers to apply the acrylics, her favourite medium.
