Janet Shearer has worked as an artist for most of her life. After studying Fine Art at Kingston Art College in the early 1970s, she spent several years painting scenery in the film business. She then embarked on a three decade long international career as an artist specialising in hyper-realistic trompe l’oeil paintings and murals. Thereafter, Janet began to concentrate on developing a much more intuitive, impressionistic style in her own studio.
Inspired by the coastline, the woodlands and rivers around her home in rural mid Cornwall, she enjoys capturing the essence of the Camel Estuary and the North Cornwall landscape around her.
She loves to walk, sail and kayak, capturing inspiration from the rugged coastline, rock pools and crisp translucent waters of the coast.
Many of the paintings featured with us are a testament to those trips and the ever-changing scenes Cornwall has to offer, especially in the summer months.
