Melanie Thorn Potten achieved a BA hon. in Fine Art from the University of Gloucestershire and went on to gain a Master’s in Urban Design from Birmingham City University. Having a strong architectural background has inspired Melanie’s sense of composition and spatial awareness.

Situated in the Cotswolds, Melanie is moved by the quiet majesty of the local landscape, the ever-changing light across the hills, the unbridled movement of the sea, along with the sky’s never-ending melody.

She starts by marking her inspiration through photography and sketches, occasionally using mixed media to create studies of the works before producing the finished pieces in acrylics. She uses a restricted colour palette which she sometimes punctuates with bold hues to add depth and contrast to the finished works.

As well as winning the under-25s category at the Broadway Arts Festival Open Art Competition, Melanie has appeared multiple times on Sky Arts’ Landscape Artist of the Year, where she won the Wildcard heat in 2024.

She has completed a multitude of solo and mixed exhibitions 0ver the years and we’re delighted to have this fabulous collection on BCA.
