“We all have obsessions! It’s those subjects we return to that make our work authentically ours. One of mine is wood textures. I am constantly seeking out ways of using and creating them. The wood textures I find on my walks provide not just the inspiration but evoke memory of time and place.
As a child I remember being fascinated watching a decorator transform our old front door into a thing of beauty using glazing and traditional graining tools. He took the time to teach me, and I use that technique in to evoke the memory of resting on an old weather worn bench looking out to sea.” ~ Sally Hirst
